Triceratops ( Greek : "three-horned face"), also known as the three-horned dinosaur or triangle dragon (from Chinese , simplified : 三角龍, traditional : 三觭龍[ citation needed ] ) is a genus of herbivorous dinosaurs of the family Ceratopsidae , from the late Cretaceous period (70–65 mya ) inday North America . It was one of the last known genera of non-avian dinosaurs, and became extinct at the Cretaceous-Paleogenic Extinction 66 million years ago.[1] The name Triceratops , literally "three-horned face", comes from Ancient Greek τρί- ( tri- ) meaning "three", κέρας ( kéras ) meaning "horn", and ὤψ ( ops ) means "face".
