Rengar was born into a vastaya tribe in Shurima called the Kiilash, a society that reveres the pride and glory of the hunt. Rengar was the son of the tribal chief, Ponjaf, but was born small. Ponjaf thought Rengar's size would make him a bad hunter. So the old man abandoned him, believing that the child would soon die of starvation.
