Just like the original, you begin the game as a Small Mario. You can jump on certain enemies to defeat them. Even the objective is the same, rescuing Peach from the hands of Bowser.
The main differences between this game and the original are the use of passwords, additional power ups, additional music, and few changes to level design. Passwords are needed to reenter a world without starting over. Additional power ups are added, like the Hammer Bro item. Some of the levels have slight changes in design, like having additional platforms.
