The giant hornet ( Cerambyx cerdo Linné, 1758) is a species of beetle in the family Cerambycidae ( Cerambycidae ). It is widespread in central and southern Europe , southern Sweden , North Africa , and the Caucasus . In the east, the border of its occurrence is the river Dnieper .
The adult beetle is dark brown, the end of the trusses is reddish-brown, and it reaches a length of up to 56 mm. As with many other species in the family Cerambycidae, male giant hornbills have antennae twice as long as females and are slimmer.
