Rattly made his first appearance in the game "Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest," which was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1995. Rattly is a friendly snake who aids the Kong family on their adventure. He has a unique ability to jump high and traverse difficult terrain with ease. Players can mount Rattly and use his jumping prowess to reach higher platforms, collect items, and defeat enemies.

Rattly the Snake also appeared in subsequent Donkey Kong games, such as "Donkey Kong Land 2" for the Game Boy, "Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!" for the SNES, and "Donkey Kong Country 2" for the Game Boy Advance.​
