Akitsu Maru (Japanese: あきつ丸) was an escort carrier used by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. Some sources claim that Akitsu Maru and her sister ship Nigitsu Maru were the world's first amphibious assault ships. She was sunk by the American submarine Queenfish (SS-393) on 15 November 1944.

Akitsu Maru was a passenger ocean liner that was requisitioned by the Imperial Japanese Army prior to its completion. The ship was equipped with a take-off deck above the hull, but without a hangar, so aircraft were stored below on the main deck. The aircraft was able to take off from the ship but was unable to land due to the lack of suitable landing aids; and that is the general condition of all Army aircraft carriers. In actual operation, she and her sister ship Nigitsu Maru were aircraft transports. There are sources that the ship still operates autogiro planes. Akitsu Maru's intended role was to provide air support for amphibious operations.
