Kurama et les bêtes à queue sont apparus pour la première fois à la fin de Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, qui a utilisé sa technique de création de toutes choses pour diviser le chakra des dix queues en neuf corps distincts et leur donner un nom à chacun. Quelque temps après sa création, le Sage expliqua aux jeunes bêtes à queue qu'un lien existait entre eux malgré leur séparation. Il a également prédit qu'un jour ils seraient à nouveau réunis – mais pas tels qu'ils étaient – et qu'à ce moment-là, quelqu'un émergerait pour leur montrer ce qu'est le véritable pouvoir.[6][7] Dans l'anime, avant sa mort, Hagoromo envoya Kurama vivre dans un temple construit dans le but de le protéger dans une région forestière avec des montagnes qui deviendront plus tard une partie du Pays du Feu. Au fil du temps, Kurama a acquis une redoutable réputation de catastrophe naturelle capable de ravager des zones où les aspects les plus sombres de la nature humaine se rassemblent et s'enveniment.

Kurama and the tailed beasts first came into being in the waning days of Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, who used his Creation of All Things Technique to divide the Ten-Tails' chakra into nine separate bodies and giving them each a name. Some time after being created, the Sage explained to the young tailed beasts that a link existed between them despite their separation. He also foretold of a day when they would be brought together again - though not as they were - and that at that time someone would emerge to show them what true power is.[6][7] In the anime, before his death, Hagoromo sent Kurama to live in a temple built for the purpose of protecting it in a forest region with mountains that would later become part of the Land of Fire.[8] Over time, Kurama gained a fearsome reputation as a natural disaster that can desolate areas where the darkest aspects of human nature collect and fester.
