Hina Matsuri papercraft
The tradition of playing with a girl's day doll is traced back to the Heian Period (794-1185), a period in Japanese history . In the old days, the Japanese believed that dolls could ward off bad spirits. So, they made dolls out of straw and dropped them into the river with the hope that bad things would stay away from the babies.
The Japanese call this festival Hina Matsuri (雛祭り), "Matsuri" means festival, "Hina" means little doll, the festival is also known as Momo no sekku (桃の節句) meaning flower festival peach . And the Japanese choose March 3 every year to hold the festival, because early March is also the time when cherry blossoms bloom in Japan.
