[Japan] Gasshozukuri Papercraft
The Gokayama region of Toyama Prefecture and the Shirakawago region of Gifu Prefecture are extremely precious places where many of Japan's ancient village landscapes are preserved. These two places are famous for their unique architectural houses called Gassho-zukuri. "Gassho" in "Gassho-zukuri" means "clapped hands". Due to the shape of the roof, it looks like they are holding hands, so the name of this architecture is "Gassho-zukuri". The roof is covered with dried grass, this method is called "Kayabuki". In Japan, such architectural styles can only be found in Gokayama and Shirakawago. In 1995, Suganuma village, Ainokura village in Gokayama region and Ogimachi village in Shirakawago region were inscribed as World Cultural Heritage.
