Creepers are fictional creatures from the open world video game Minecraft . They are hostile mobs (short for mobile non-player characters) that can be encountered in the game world at any given time or place. Instead of attacking the player in the traditional way, they climb onto the player and explode, destroying blocks in the surrounding area and potentially damaging the player if they are within the blast radius. They disguise themselves as green and their silent behavior aids in stealth attacks. Creeper was first added to Minecraft in an alpha update to the game on August 31, 2009.
