Vaporetto is the public water bus (waterbus) of Venice. There are 19 service routes between Venice and neighboring islands, such as Murano, Burano and Lido. The name vaporetto can be translated as "small steamship", and is used to refer to ships with similar objectives in the process of being powered by steam. The natives call vaporetto batèlo or vaporino.
The vaporetto image for Venice is like the gondola. The gondola is a romantic vestige of the older days, but the Vaporetto is a sign that Venice is also a place to spend a good modern life.
The first vaporetto was built in 1881 and was actually powered by a steam engine. Today's vaporettos are diesel engines. We have 24 meters in length and are allowed to manage 210 clients.
