At first, they were suspicious of Vivi, because he was with humans. Vivi is annoyed with their way of thinking, and runs to the village's memorial. He tries to find out why the Black Mages "stop working" by asking about the leader here, Black Mage No. 288 . Mr. 288 explains the nature of death to Vivi. And also guess that Vivi is an upgrade made to outlive other Black Mages. After many events happened along the game, cuois and him also understood the meaning of their existence.
